Hands

A really under rated part of everyday life is the use of our hands. Perhaps this is a reflective and philosophical post, but I really enjoy hands in art, which sounds grammatically incorrect and weird as a sentence. We do everything with our hands! We should be aware how lucky we are to have them.

Valentino floor length gowns= swoon!

The August 2014 cover featured the Downton Abbey ladies, all wearing Valentino gowns.

I am particularly in love with the ethereal colours, silhouettes, shapes and textures of floor length Valentino gowns in particular, really wonderful, wistful and elegant.

All the cover ones were from the 2014 collection I believe ( I won't pretend to know and can't be bothered to google)

Jaime King in a 2015 gown, I just love it! The sleeves, colours, everything! Stunning!

Look at these colours and the attention to detail, like a fairytale being played out in real life

10.17

One of my favourite blogs ever to exist, 10.17 captures the beauty in films, books and moments so well. The photography on the blog is great, all the recommendations are great, a glimpse into sublime combinations, the 10.17 Tumblr is one I constantly peruse!

Pics from 10.17, as linked above
enjoy!

Pierre Jaquet-Droz

For those who really loved the film Hugo, but in particular the ethereal hypnotic presence of the Automaton, I really was enchanted by his mechanical beauty and did a little research.

A large inspiration behind the book, then film was this automaton:
Maillardet's automaton, built by Henri Maillardet.

Which then led to finding out about the Jaquet-Droz automata. They are still working and draw pictures, and are on display in Switzerland.

Pierre Jaquet-Droz was a Swiss watchmaker and built the dolls to help him sell watches, but I really do think his mechanical bird music boxes are so wonderful, such an intricate attention to detail, full of old world charm. If you are into such intricacies, Jaquet-Droz have their own Youtube channel which is full of delightful videos.

Here is a link to a great article and video about his music boxes, gif below swiped from that source :)

Jezebel Sationery, where art thou?

Whatever happened to Jezebel Stationery? I have come across her designs many many a time, as I wished to call a 'Boudicca and Romola rode white horses' tote my own, but their site has up and gone! Disappeared! It is so strange when things disappear off the internet, like the Unicorn Diaries! Quite the feat to pull off, nevertheless, please enjoy her beautiful beautiful artwork I have pinched pictures of from all over the interwebz

The delicate silhouettes, the suggestions of a raucous night life....ah! What dreams brought to life!

Link to blog here good read too

I am most definitely a gin drinker, if nothing else

Midsummer Night's dream! You can never do any wrong!

Rocket Cats and the Great Moon hoax

Early papers on siege warfare and tactics included plans to dispatch artillery in some VERY unusual ways
Read more here

History is so awesomely strange! You can't fake Rocket Cats these days!

This manuscript is from 1584!

And now we come to.....

The great moon hoax read more here one of my favourite hoaxes of all time! Six articles from the 1830's claiming life on Mars! Brilliant! People are always arguing about how foolish people from the past were without realising we are fooled in our every day lives!

Enjoy
