Iron Giant/ Groot

THANKS VIN DIESEL FOR PORTRAYING HEART WRENCHING CHARACTERS, I get that they both have regenerative powers, but that's not the point!

The Iron Giant and Groot are two of the best characters in films this side of the millennium, both voiced by everyone's favourite speed demon

but WHY! I mean, i get it, they're both back, as evidenced by Groot's dancing:

But so many sads!

Bonnie and Clyde

I really enjoy complete historical inaccuracy and hyperbole in film almost as much as I love sixties style and font in film! ^_^

My Neighbour Totoro

Re-watched this gem over the break ^_^ so beautiful :)

Tim Burton and Helena Bonham Carter

Hmm, not much celebrity news (that is designed to distract from the REAL world!) registers

but it is upsetting that everyone's favourite kooky couple have split. We outsiders had glimpses into their film collaborations and their kickass red carpet displays, moments in magazines, wish them both well!

Pierre Jaquet-Droz

For those who really loved the film Hugo, but in particular the ethereal hypnotic presence of the Automaton, I really was enchanted by his mechanical beauty and did a little research.

A large inspiration behind the book, then film was this automaton:
Maillardet's automaton, built by Henri Maillardet.

Which then led to finding out about the Jaquet-Droz automata. They are still working and draw pictures, and are on display in Switzerland.

Pierre Jaquet-Droz was a Swiss watchmaker and built the dolls to help him sell watches, but I really do think his mechanical bird music boxes are so wonderful, such an intricate attention to detail, full of old world charm. If you are into such intricacies, Jaquet-Droz have their own Youtube channel which is full of delightful videos.

Here is a link to a great article and video about his music boxes, gif below swiped from that source :)

Jazz Age

Nostalgia for a time one never knew

The hair, make-up and style, of everything! attention to detail

The actresses mysterious, not sharing absolutely every detail about themselves on social media

Here is some music to enjoy dancing to!

The portraits, never to look dated, merely a glimpse to the past

The dresses, such finery!

Dance halls full swing! Behind your local Speakeasy
Dancing until the dawn!
I am in love with the picture below!
Ladies finding a cab home after a night of debauchery!

Canberra even happens to have its own Speakeasy
the atmosphere and attention to detail always being marvellous!
A bar called Molly!

and of course the book that captured the spirit of it all, The Great Gatsby

Nostalgia for the past is a good thing in my mind, if we forget and move on, these things will forever be lost to the passage of time

Reading Watching Listening

Sylvia Plath's drawings, a book compiled by her daughter

This film is so many levels of delightful, gigantic post incoming

Kate Bush! I really love the cover art of this album too, the colours and the illustrations.
I love Kate Bush's lyrics, she wrote some of her songs when she was still a child!
I hear that and want to give up on being an adult!
