Le Cholera

We learn about the numbers of the casualties of war, we learn the numbers of those killed in terror attacks, but I wonder how many people could adequately number the sheer amount of humanity that has been killed off by preventable disease.

Blogging is a world where one has to be careful, as it is very easy to come across as self righteous. I sit with my history books and cannot begin to imagine the devastation of being alive at a time when cholera was killing people in the thousands. We reflect on the eleventh hour on the eleventh month to mark the end of World War One, I urge anyone interested in this vein of history to look into the numbers of casualties, killed by disease, which ravages large portions of our globe and has devastating effects.

The following video by The School of Life does a brilliant job summarising what it took university a year to hammer into students:

Just thinking/ essay procrastination

I was so relieved when I found a word for it as the concept of Sonder is one I get caught up in quite often

I always wonder how many other people are staring at the moon at the exact same time as me, and what they are going through. I am comforted by the thought that our moon was the same one Joan of Arc fought under, the same moon Oscar Wilde wrote under, the same moon that people on other sides of the world who have never seen each other consult for company or comfort.

Has anyone else experienced a level of non-caring that others have mistaken for brazen confidence? It sounds so strange when put in a sentence like that! Perhaps my homework is depressing me!

Here are some words I hope are of comfort to you

Differing conflicts

Internal: personal conflicts, our constantly changing way we perceive and see the world

External: conflicts we cannot imagine what it must have been like to go through.

They are not external to us all though. Did you guys see the artists who raked sand stencils of the fallen 9000 of D-Day at Normandy? Link here a moving art piece. An extreme visual reminder of the cost of war.

Leunig is a national treasure, to use the most overused term of national endearment.

Medieval margins

Snail Joust!

Medieval margin-alia, WTF!
Those monks must have been bored!
I really love the idea of these being an in joke or early graffiti or something! Or perhaps daily life is such a departure from those times now we can't even see what these drawings even slightly might be touching on!

These all came from a Tumblr post pointing these out! Brilliant!
