The lady of Shalott

John William Waterhouse painting 1888

The lady of Shalott is a ballad by Lord Tennyson, it is about a mysterious lady who lives on a castle on an island, whose river flows to Camelot. She is under a mysterious curse and cannot look out the windows and must always weave on her loom and only has a mirror through which she can look out the window behind her. One day she hears Lancelot riding to Camelot and is so distracted she looks up from her loom, bringing the mysterious curse upon her. She leaves her tower, paints her name on a little boat, lays down in it to float to Camelot and dies before reaching there. 

Do yourself a favour and read the whole thing here if you haven't, it is rather lovely. I know every blog ever has a Lady of Shalott reference somewhere, but it is worth it. There is also a charming little Youtube video here

Fran Fine in the Nanny. I spent ages looking for a pic of this most excellent jacket! These are perfect for blending in at a muppet convention, or front row at Fashion Weeks worldwide, all you have to do is look semi-ridiculous and people will buy it, only YOU have to believe it's real!

As evidenced by this brilliant Jimmy Fallon clip look up the full one, i just liked the presenters way of really getting to the point

For the record, I would definitely wear anything by George Costanza

Geocaching

This week i started Geocaching thanks to my other half who is obsessed with it. I really recommend it to anyone who enjoys treasure hunts and the outdoors, and the best news is, you can do it pretty much anywhere in the world! 

It has taken us to places we might not have gone out to, some really beautiful views and walking tracks. I love being outdoors, especially when there is a view that is worth the hike. For more information and to set up, look right here. It is so easy to get started and lots of fun!

Ridiculously awesome foot spanglers

Yes by foot spanglers i mean shoes. Crazy ridiculous ingenious pretties

Alexander McQueen. good for: Conversation starter when the aliens finally come, bad for not walking like a human

Vivienne Westwood. Good for: banging in tent pegs if you go camping, bad for hiking when you go camping. I love the shape of these though

Yves Saint Laurent cage heels. Good for looking pretty at a wedding, bad for escaping predators like dinosaurs and clowns

Miu Miu glitter shoes seen on all blogs ever, everywhere. Good for childrens birthday parties, bad for funerals

Vivienne Westwood again, pirate boots= perfect job interview shoe! bad for visiting someone who might be in a straight jacket, magician or mentally disturbed.

McQueen again. Butterflies make everything better. Good for looking perfect at the zoo, bad for swooping season, wearing a bird's lunch on your feet is highly antagonistic.

Prada fairy collection was actually pretty beautiful, google the other pics if you like what you see. Good for trips to Neverland, bad for tree climbing

Dolce and Gabbana cage heels, these are incredible! Good for; riding carousels bad for walking through muddy puddles

Mai Lamore and at $27,945 they are incredibly affordable, who wouldn't go for them?! Second mortgage? no problems, giving to charity, who cares when you can have arty feet! good for being a terrible human being for spending so much on something so frivolous, bad for charities and your soul

Dsquared2 spine heels, these are brilliant, there are all sorts of knock off ones on eBay, not as much attention to detail on the bones, but the concept is there. 

Good for goths and emos all crying on Tumblr that they don't have these and would kill for them, bad for the creature they slay instead and put under their feet as heels

Brewster McCloud

This post is for my sister who got me onto this film a few years ago. Brewster McCloud (starring Bud Cort of Harold and Maude fame) is a film that has been strangely neglected. I'm not going to ruin it by 'reviewing' it suffice only to say, i like the philosophical elements and Shelley Duvall's first movie was this film, she really is cute in it. It's such a simple concept for a film, obsession with flight, so good.If you like 70's films and clothes and everything, this is a film for you
