Tell it to the trees

Trees are everywhere, loved and overlooked, they are wonderful entities!

"The forgotten Treehouse bars of bygone summers in Paris"

here is a wonderful article about this wonderful old custom. It is easy to look back on a past you never lived in wistfully, but the pictures are so magical!

And of course Yggdrasil, the great tree that links the nine worlds in Norse mythology, is beautifully depicted in immense tomes of other worlds. The accepted meaning of the word 'Yggdrasil' is 'Odin's horse'.

The English language derived many of its words from Norse ones. Etymology is brilliant if you are bi-lingual, sometime you can form a connection where words originated, and where current loan words are today. (A non-terrifying form of globalisation, if you will!)

Wonderful giants, protectors of supernatural realms and our air-quality, trees have quite a responsibility! But do it with such graceful ease....

Man on Wire 2008

After repeated recommendations from my wonderful sister, I finally got around to watching this documentary.(Available on Netflix)

In 1974, French tightrope-walker Philippe Petit crossed a wire between the Twin Towers in New York City. The documentary looks at all the planning that went into it, and how his friends and girlfriend at the time struggled to help him out, realising there was a high level risk to this since-adolescence dream of his.

And walking the pylons between the Sydney Harbour Bridge.

Planning for the twin towers crossing was extensive, and Petit and his team planned for years, helping him practise to compensate for wind by pulling on his home-made tightrope. They all helped him get up there and watched in fascination, particularly down below on the street, where a magical sight of a man walking a rope lay down in the middle, a magical piece of art. 

The twin towers were 417 metres high, a fall from this height meant certain death.

The film is a beautiful reminder of the heights man goes to (no pun intended) and how humans are capable of whimsy, dreams and beauty.

A must see!

Allison Harvard/ Creepy Chan

Americas Next Top Model's only contestant that ever stood out in my mind and to many others, was Allison Harvard, who pre-ANTM fame was semi known as an internet personality (pre massive social media boom days) on 4chan, going by the name of Creep Chan

The gothic undertones are all brilliant, suited to the girl who freaked out Tyra Banks by telling her about her obsession with nosebleeds, see here

Luisa Casati

An eccentric Italian heiress, the Luisa Casati cemented her place in dandy and eccentrics history with the otherworldly tales that are still told about her, such as keeping wax figures as permanent guests at her table and her firm friendships with many people in exile, among them many artists.

The Marchesa was famed for using live snakes to wear as jewellery and for walking around with leashed cheetahs whilst herself naked under a fur coat. Artists were captured by her, and still to this day she is cited as an inspiration for many, read more about her here
