Potterings about..

This time of year is when the magic slowly starts to creep back in, instead of just the cold. For starters, all the cherry blossoms are in bloom, they look so pretty lining the streets, a much needed burst of colour.

A sweet scent lingers on the air when you're out and about, or hanging the laundry, it is a much welcomed scent for boring housework. Brooklyn of course remains the best company anyone could ask for

Lots of reading going on too

Natural beauties. Some get brought inside, some remain out to colour the world which is slowly colouring itself in.

Ten for today

1) The Moomins by Tove Jansson. Everytime i miss my sister (which is often) i look at Moomin illustrations or watch an episode and feel like i am instantly with her. The colours and the ambience of the show instantly melt any anxiety away...

2) Sienna Miller's headband.

(isn't her daughter precious?)
3) Snapdragons
4) MOR candles. i burnt my basil and grape down to the wick, my pomegranate one is still going strong though!

5) The pic i left out of that delightful underwater shoot

6) Joan of Arc. A complete sucker for history, i especially love how if someone heard voices and demanded control of the french army today, they would be a small column in a paper about local loonies and not an enduring martyr who captures minds and imaginations to this day

7) Iggy and Lou Lou's bluebird necklaces. So simple and quaint. Been dreaming of owning this little charmer for years

8) Guillermo Del Toro's sketchbooks. i love diarists! especially ones who can draw!

9) TMOD. Their cards have such beautiful attentions to detail, and i love the nostalgia and whimsy in them, but for now lets admire this bag by them:

10) Lazy days off listening to helicopters fly overhead.

(last pic taken from TMOD website, Bluebird necklace taken from Iggy and Lou Lou website, Moomin scans by yours truly, other pics taken from Tumblr searches...bad blogger.....)

3 quick things of note...

Tatty Devine:
As a sucker for all things fairytale related this has to be one of the greatest pieces of jewellery to be brought to life, it's big and whimsical and everything fun jewellery should be! Tatty Devine make some of the most amazing pieces anyone could dream up! Check out their webiste for more whimsical pieces...

Also, the other half's birthday is coming up and there's alot to live up to, as i made him a bacon cake last year (cake-on, get it :P ) i found THESE! but sadly cannot find a way to buy them in Australia..?

A bacon Man-dle would greatly compliment the bench grinder i've got hidden under the house, wouldn't you say?
and last, but never least, a wonderful photo by the mega-talented Tim Walker, I haven't been able to take my eyes off it. I love skeletons, and who doesn't love a dancing one at that? Tim Walker's photos do a lot of rounds on blogs, and for damn good reason, i spend many an hour trawling through on-line treasuries of his work:

Off for a bike ride in the mountains on one of the few warm days Canberra has given us poor cold souls in quite some time! xx

Happy we'll be beyond the sea..

Whether you like her or not, there is no denying that Drew Barrymore looks absolutely amazing in this underwater photoshoot for ELLE in 2009. The colours, the lighting, the ethereal nature of the clothes compliments the stunning backdrop perfectly, more fashiony magazines should dunk people underwater instead of having them sit somewhere talking vapidly about the restaurant atmosphere...

Home made cider...

My lovely sister partner and i were all enjoying store bought ciders one time, then the next day decided to make our own, things are so much more fun and rewarding when done with your own two hands..

Now, a week to wait for it to ferment to see if the gamble paid off!

One man's trash...

Lately I've been spending a lot of time at the drop off point before our local tip. This amazing place called The Green Shed is like a giant op shop. So if it hadn't been there, some of the amazing treasures come across in travels would have ended up in the garbage!!!
This was found by the side of the road, on the way to the tip actually!
And I have some lovely friends at The Green Shed who rescued me these butterflies, someone was going to throw them away, how heartless!!!

The little vase of preserved flowers was from the tip, less than a dollar. The only moth in the series (so far) the giant one, his name is Randy.

The thing most loved about the op shop and The Green Shed is, you never know what you shall find!
